The Christmas Closet

for Aingeal

Author's Notes: For Aingeal, who wanted a closet, love and friendship, warm fuzzy feelings, mild slash, and Dief.

Ray looked around the bullpen and sighed. It was the 27th's annual Christmas party, and the offices were filled with people having a good time.

The second shift officers weren't there, of course, they would have their own party later, and there were a few officers from Ray's shift out on calls; but everyone else was there; catching up on paperwork and chasing down leads over the phone, but everyone was mostly just enjoying the Christmas music, conversation and laughter, and the very good food that had been brought in from a local deli and bakery.

Even Diefenbaker was fully in the spirit of things. He had allowed Elaine to put a Santa hat on him, apparently deciding that his dignity didn't matter if the hat allowed him to wander from group to group getting attention and petting and treats.

The only one who didn't seem to be enjoying himself was Benny. He was among the revelers in his own special red suit, standing nearly at attention and looking as uncomfortable as if he were before a formal review board, and not at a holiday party.

At least he had been. Ray sighed as he couldn't find Benny anywhere in sight. He had obviously snuck out of the party, but Ray had a pretty good idea where to find him.

He left the bullpen and walked down the hall to the supply closet. He knocked gently on the door a couple of times, but got no answer. "Benny?"

There was a pause, then he heard Benny's voice through the door. "Come in, Ray."

Ray stepped inside the closet and closed the door behind him.

Benny had turned the light on, but the single, low-wattage bulb didn't do very much to light up the closet. Ray leaned against the shelf, staring at Fraser through the dimness.

"What are you doing in here Benny," he asked conversationally.

"I was just taking a breather, clearing my head..."

"Hiding."

"I am not hiding," Benny said indignantly.

"Oh? So how come you snuck out of the party without a word and closed yourself in the closet?"

"I..." Benny's eyes dropped from Ray's and he looked at the floor.

Ray looked at Benny with both amusement and affection. "Benny, this is a party, not the Spanish Inquisition. You don't need to run and hide."

Benny looked back up at him. "I'm just not very good at these things, Ray."

"What are you talking about? You work parties at the Consulate all the time."

"That's different, Ray. That's a professional event, and I know how to act there. I have a role to fill, that makes it easy."

Ray sighed. "You have a role here, too. Benton Fraser, a guy having a good time and relaxing with his friends."

Benny looked at him in surprise. "Friends?"

"Yes. Friends. I don't know how it escaped your Eagle-Mountie eyes, but the people out there like you."

Benny shook his head. "They think I'm weird."

"Well of course they do, Benny. That doesn't mean they don't like you. Hell, I think you're weird, and I still like you."

"Like me, Ray?"

"Yes Benny. Like you." He moved away from the shelf to stand right in front of Benny, and wrapped his arms around Benny's waist. "Like a lot," he whispered, and pulled Benny into a kiss. He could feel Benny smiling against his mouth, then Benny pulled away.

"I'm glad you like me, Ray."

"Like a lot," Ray reminded him. He moved his arms to grab Benny around the shoulders, then whirled them around to push Benny up against the shelves and push himself against Benny. "Like a whole lot," he whispered, and kissed Benny again.

Benny sighed, and suddenly his arms were around Ray's waist, then his hands were sliding lower, to grab Ray's ass and pull him even closer.

Ray gasped and jumped slightly, and nipped Benny on his bottom lip. Benny laughed and slid his hands slowly up Ray's side, then managed to work his hands between their bodies, fumbling with Ray's tie and the buttons on his shirt.

Ray was having a slightly easier time, roughly pushing Benny's lanyard aside and popping open a couple of the big brass buttons, and slipping his hands inside Benny's uniform to massage Benny's chest through the thin fabric of his undershirt.

Benny moaned softly and gave up trying to open Ray's shirt, returning his hands to Ray's ass and squeezing and massaging, before sliding his hands to Ray's hips, pulling him closer once more.

Finally Ray pulled away, and rested his head on Benny's shoulder, breathing heavily.

"Benny..."

"No."

"We have to get back to the party."

Benny groaned. "I'm supposed to have an inclination to go back now? There is a much better party going on right here, Ray."

"Yeah, but what if somebody found us?" Ray saw Benny look at the door. "The lock's broken," he informed him.

"Damn it!"

Ray laughed, and Benny leaned his head back against the shelves with a sigh. "I'm glad you find this so amusing, Ray."

"Not really," Ray said. "But we can pick up where we left off later, at home." He pressed a lingering kiss against Benny's throat. "I'll make it worth the wait, I promise."

Benny sighed again, then looked at Ray with a grin and a gleam in his eye that Ray could see even in the dim light. "All right, but I'll want something special."

Ray's heart gave a nervous thump. "Benny, I don't know..."

Benny just raised an eyebrow at him and began rearranging his clothes.

"Benny, it's cold outside!"

"The garage is nice and warm."

"I just got it cleaned."

"We'll be careful, Ray."

"I don't want you ruining another Riv of mine, Benny."

"That's hardly likely, is it, Ray?"

"I don't know, you can get pretty exuberant. You could kick out a window."

"I'll replace it." Benny gave Ray a quick kiss, then opened the door and left the closet, heading back towards the party.

"Benny? Let's talk about this some more. Benny? Benny! Wait up!"

THE END
