I particularly like the way Fraser was trying to convince himself that what he had was enough, and that moment where he stands behind Ray, one hand on Ray's hip, the other reaching into his jeans pocket for teh keys.

Oh, boys. I love how they're so domestic together. And I can really see Fraser-getting-the-keys-from-Ray's-pocket happening on the show (though sadly not the very hot bath scene). I loved the "head on a stick" line!

This was an adorable story, and it was absolutely the perfect giftfic for JS. I love the warm, sweet and almost innocent intimacy Fraser and Ray share in this. As sexy as the bathtub scene was (and yep, it really, really was ;-) the bit I liked best was Ray coming to Fraser in the middle of the night, and Fraser throwing back the covers with a nonchalant, "Come on, then" and suggesting that it's better if they "talk where it's warm." I love that SO much. They're so easy and uncomplicated together, even if there is sexual tension galore, and you really nailed that dynamic perfectly. It made me fall in love with the Boys all over again, and like JS said, that's a huge gift from one fan to another. Great story, oh Anonymous One!

Ohmygod, I am BEAMING from ear to ear in Utter Fannish Glee. I love this to an embarrassing degree. Really, my family heard me practically squeal the house down, because it couldn’t have been more obvious this story was written for me, OMG. \o/ It had everything I love and then some! From the very first word I was enjoying the hell out of it--and it kept getting better!
The scenario you set up was perfect and believable and exactly what I wanted to see. The Post CoTW, Chicago--and roommates, even! Great touch. And the unfulfilled longing and the willingness to settle for less, because what they did have was SO good. Real friendship and real love, and hope. *happy sigh*
The characterizations are terrific. I adore the Ray/Fraser banter and conversations so much. They rang so true. Ray putting his feet up on Fraser’s desk is LOVE. And the thing with the chairs! And his snarky comebacks. It was perfectly timed and expertly done. I lovelovelove Savvy!Ray teaching Fraser something about his Consulate job. It was a perfect choice. As was Fraser’s response. And the “date.”
I just knew what was going to happen in the liquor store. Not because you telegraphed anything, but because…this is dueSouth! This is what happens there! Hee! I had the feeling as I read that I was watching a televised episode unfold, and I LOVE that feeling SO MUCH I cannot textually render it. I really felt like they could have have filmed this episode (in a perfect world, they would have)! --And then when I read the rest I REALLY felt they should have filmed it. :)
And after all that? Oh. My. God. HANDS. Hands. My first reaction (after dying of squee) was: I should have thought of that! Hee! OMG, some of my favorite tropes here. It’s embarrassing to admit, but you pushed all my fannish buttons with the hands and the pocket(!) and the UST, and the BATH, and the…GUHHHH. You know. The thing. That they did. And the other thing. And the information about what happened up North. And most of all: NAKED!RAY!!!!! OMG. Naked!Ray! *fans self*
Oh, I must mention "head on a stick"--it took me about five minutes to figure that one out. (I'm guessing that it's because the U.S. pronunciation is different? I really didn't get it at first--duh! We say HEE-don-ISS-tic.) When I did get it I laughed my sides off: Oh, Ray!!!
Ray coming in to see Fraser in the middle of the night was the best! The conversation. The tone. The ending line. HEE! Just perfect. I MELTED. Perfect, perfect, perfect. Couldn’t have been more perfectly resolved. SO MUCH LOVE.
*has palpitations* *remembers how to breathe* *breathes*
